Heed the criteria set out by the emulsion plant for manufacturing the mix: for example opt for a liquid emulsifier as the plant has no heater, and use hydrochloric acid as no phosphoric acid storage has been anticipated or provided for.
Based on the reactivity of the materials and the bitumen available at the emulsion plant, laboratory tests will determine the choice of emulsifier and its dosage, generally ranging from 4 to 10 kg per tonne of emulsion, as well as the acid dosage for an emulsion pH of 1.8 to 2.7 depending on the aggregate type. Additionally, in order to improve water drainage during compaction, use an additive from the STABIRAM® CM5XX® range if required.
Typical formulation for one tonne of C65B5 type emulsion:
BITUMEN 160/220 : 650 kg
STABIRAM® CM 408 : 7 kg
HCl (d=1.16 at 32%) : ~ 8 kg for aqueous phase pH = 2.0
WATER up to 1000 kg
STABIRAM ®CM 506 : 2 kg for post addition into 1000 kg of emulsion
