Heed the criteria set out by the emulsion plant for manufacturing the mix: for example opt for a liquid emulsifier if the plant has no heater, and use preferably hydrochloric acid if no phosphoric acid storage has been anticipated or provided for.
Based on the reactivity of the materials and the bitumen available at the emulsion plant, laboratory tests will determine the choice of CECA emulsifier and its dosage, generally ranging from 4 to 10 kg per tonne of emulsion, as well as the acid dosage for an emulsion pH of 1.8 to 2.7 depending on the aggregate type.
CECA’s laboratories regularly work with their customers to develop and optimise these formulations. CECA recommends the following emulsifiers for these applications: Polyram® S, Polyram® SL, Polyram® L80 & Polyram® L90.
Typical formulation for one tonne of C60B5 type emulsion:
BITUMEN 160/220 : 600 kg
POLYRAM SL® : 8 kg
HCl (d=1.16 at 32%) : ~ 8 kg for aqueous phase pH = 2.0
WATER up to 1000 kg
